Common questions
Quick answers to the most frequent support topics.
My DWG file won't open — what should I do?
Make sure the file is a valid .dwg format (not .dxf or .pdf renamed). Try re-downloading or re-transferring the file. If the issue persists, the file may use a format version we haven't yet implemented — please contact us with the file details so we can investigate.
Measurements seem off — are they accurate?
PlanInspect uses the drawing's internal coordinate system for measurements, so they're as accurate as the original CAD data. If values seem wrong, check that the drawing was created with the correct units (metric vs. imperial) in the original CAD software.
Some layers or elements are missing
Toggle through the layer panel to make sure the layer isn't simply hidden. Some DWG files use frozen or off layers that aren't visible by default. We're continuously improving entity support — if something's genuinely missing, please let us know via the contact form.
How do I get DWG files onto my device?
You can open DWG files from the iOS Files app, email attachments, AirDrop, or any cloud storage provider (iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.). Just tap the file and choose "Open in PlanInspect" from the share sheet.
The app crashed or is running slowly
Very large or complex DWG files can be demanding. Try closing other apps to free up memory, restart PlanInspect, or restart your device. If the problem continues with a specific file, send us the file details via email so we can optimize for it.
Built to work
without internet
PlanInspect processes everything on your device. That means most issues can be resolved right on your iPhone or iPad — no server status to check, no connectivity to troubleshoot.
Restart the app
Swipe up to close PlanInspect completely, then reopen it. This clears the rendering cache and often resolves display glitches.
Re-transfer the file
If a file won't open, try sending it to your device again via AirDrop or Files. Partial downloads or corrupted transfers are the most common cause.
Check your iOS version
PlanInspect requires iOS 17 or later. Go to Settings → General → Software Update to make sure you're on the latest version.
Free up device storage
Large DWG files need working memory. If your device is nearly full, clearing some space can improve performance significantly.
Still stuck? Contact us
If a specific DWG isn't working, email it to us at support@planinspect.com. We'll diagnose the issue and often ship a fix in the next update.
